Obituary
Donald Roland Mattmueller, 76, passed away on November 29, 2008 at his home in Leesburg, VA, where he had lived with his wife for 18 years.
Don Mattmueller was born in Albuquerque, NM on September 15, 1932 to the late Roland A. and Elva (Moore) Mattmueller.
His family later moved to Arlington, VA, where he attended Washington Lee High School. After high school, he attended Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA, majoring in mathematics. During this time, he met his wife, Claire, and they were married in June 1955.
After college, he was drafted into the Army, then continued service as a civilian with Army Map Services in Washington, DC. He then moved to Laurel, Maryland where he worked for IBM. He and his wife lived in Laurel for over 20 years before moving to Leesburg, VA, where he did consulting and then eventually retired.
Don and Claire enjoyed the time they had together and with their children. They traveled the East Coast from Nova Scotia to Miami with their children and after retirement enjoyed a trip back to the Southwest to see the Grand Canyon and to visit his birthplace in Albuquerque. He loved living in the Leesburg area where he could enjoy the beauty of the Shenandoah Mountains.
Don enjoyed many hobbies over the years: hiking, biking, jogging, tennis, aviation, and astronomy. He was a true pet lover. Over the years, he had many pets of his own and he befriended all of the animals of his children and neighbors.
Don was a loving husband, father and friend. He was outgoing and loved people. He will be missed by many. His memories will live on in those he leaves behind: his wife of 53 years, Claire; his four daughters, Diane (Kurt) Tilford, Donna (Ron) Schwenk, Danette (Sloan) Cathcart, and Debbie (Greg) Allen; and five grandchildren, Maci Schwenk, Micah Tilford, DJ Schwenk, Melody Tilford and Holli Schwenk.
A service will be held on December 4, 2008 at 2 pm at the Cornerstone Chapel in of Leesburg, Virginia.
