Obituary

Donald A. Reno, 84, of South Riding, VA and formerly of Glenshaw, PA passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior on June 30, 2015, at Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, VA. He valiantly battled chronic lymphocytic leukemia for seven years.

Don was born August 20, 1930, in Pittsburgh, PA. He was the son of John and Ruth Reno. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Reno of South Riding, VA; son, Douglas Reno of Haltom City, TX; daughter, Caroline Wilder, son-in-law Robert Wilder, and grandchildren Grant and Kiersten Wilder, of Ashburn, VA. He is also survived by his older brother, John (Jack) Reno Jr. of Lancaster, PA and his sister, Nancy Seiler of Frederick, MD. Don was also known as Papa to the pharmacy staff at the South Riding Food Lion.

Don graduated from Shaler High School (Glenshaw, PA), attended Grove City College in Pennsylvania and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Tarkio College in Missouri. A history major, Don loved reading various books on history and politics.

He worked for many years at the YMCA in Pittsburgh as a membership director. During that time he met many sports luminaries and coordinated various PR events. He loved meeting people. He later went on to pursue a career in real estate. His most memorable client was Tony Dungy, a former Steelers player and coach and later, the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts.

Don enjoyed life's simple pleasures such as walking, enjoying quiet contemplation on his deck overlooking the lake, reading, and watching his beloved Washington Nationals. Having grown up in Pittsburgh, he was also a longtime Steelers fan. Don also had a keen interest in politics and genealogy and was the family historian.
Don and his beloved wife, Mary enjoyed 57 years of marriage and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2008 at Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg, VA. He and Mary attended Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church in Chantilly, VA for more than a decade and made many wonderful friends there. Don loved Jesus, and he loved people.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Don's life at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 12:00pm.
