Dorothy T. McConnell of Sterling, Virginia passed away on June 7, 2012 at INOVA Loudoun Hospital. Dorothy was born April 1, 1922 in Hunter, Virginia to Mamie B. and Bertrum M. Thompson. She graduated from McKinley Technology High School in Washington, DC. She then went on to work for Kay Jewelers and then Freeds Optical Gallery, both in Washington, DC. She was also a licensed notary during this time. She then moved to Sterling, Virginia where she worked as a legal secretary for Senator Waddell. She retired in 1972 when she became a homemaker and helped to raise her two grandchildren. She had a passion for local history, writing poetry and a love for animals. She also enjoyed crafts and sewing. She is preceded in death by her late husband, Thomas S. McConnell of 54 years, her twin brother Donald Thompson and two sisters Petey Thompson and Virginia Downs. She is survived by her son, Gerald D. Judy and wife Suzie. Her grandchildren are Wendy L. Sorrell, Angel Piontek, Dale B. McConnell and Nikho Rosales. She also has nine great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
A viewing and memorial service is planned for Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at the Colonial Funeral Home located at 201 Edwards Ferry Rd., NE Leesburg, Virginia. Services will begin at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery, Leesburg, Virginia.
