Dorothy M Mozden 1941-2025
Dotti Mozden, 83, formerly of Limington, Maine, who lived most recently in Shenandoah Junction, W.V. passed away on April 18. Born November 8, 1941, in Cleveland, OH she was the eldest daughter of the late Dr. Walter Stanley and Dorothy (Emerick) Mozden. Dotti will be remembered as a determined and fiercely intelligent person, lifelong advocate for nature and animals, talented expert in technology, a kind and outgoing friend, and a loving sister with a joy for life.
Dotti attended Ursuline Academy in Springfield, MA and earned her college degree at Trinity College in Washington D.C. Dotti loved the outdoors and wanted to be a forestry major but that field was not open to women in the 1960s so she studied Biology and Public Health while attending graduate school at UMass Amherst.
She moved to California where she lived on a sailboat in the San Francisco Bay and worked as a health statistician for the Berkely County Health Department and started working with computer systems. A few years later she moved to the Sacramento area where she worked for the State Health Dept and owned a walnut orchard with her husband, Joe.
After her father passed away, Dotti and her husband moved back east to be closer to her family, driving cross country to Maine with two dogs, four cats and two horses. Dotti worked for Southern Maine Technical College in South Portland where she was the school's director of IT services. She was very active in the Small Woodlot Owners Association of Maine (SWOAM) and several animal support organizations.
Dotti moved from Maine to WV in 2012 following the passing of both her mother and husband in 2009. While in WV Dotti was active in the Master Naturalist Program, continued horseback riding, started a Friends of Opera group, and enjoyed camping in her Airstream while attending Bluegrass music festivals.
Dotti is survived by her siblings: Walter, Catherine, Annterese, Mark, and Elizabeth, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Dotti was predeceased by her sister Marie.
Following a private service, Dotti will be buried in New Hampshire near the family's summer home.
