Dorothy Lorene Sheppard, 95, of Lorton, VA, passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.

She was born on December 30, 1927, in Arlington, VA and was the daughter of the late Claude Conley Slusher, Sr. and Ruth Bucher Slusher.
Dorothy was a business owner operating two firms- Stretch and Sew Fabrics in Springfield Plaza and DoRu Fabrics in Kings Park. After a successful business career she obtained her Real Estate License. For a time, Dorothy was an agent for Holly, Harget and Spain Realty in Northern Virginia. Upon moving to Clearwater, FL, she became an agent with Bobbie Byrd Realty. She retired first to Heritage Hunt in Gainesville, VA, and finally to Ashby Ponds in Ashburn, VA.

On September 6, 1947, she married Edgar W. Sheppard who preceded her in death. Surviving her is a daughter, Alta Leslie Schmidt (Peter) of Lorton, Va. Also surviving are grandchildren Zachary Schmidt of Lorton, and Daniel Maag (Sherri) of Staunton, VA. Dorothy is also survived by great-grandchildren Camila Schmidt and Adrianna, Mason and Riley Maag. Also surviving is a brother, Douglas L. Slusher, Sr. (Karen), a son-in-law, Michael Maag, and a sister-in-law, Joyce Richardson. Also surviving are nephews, Ronnie Slusher, Douglas L Slusher, Jr., and Tim Slusher, and neice, Jennifer Allison.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Also preceding her death are two brothers, Claude Conley Slusher, Jr. and Donald Slusher; a daughter, Donna L. Maag; and a grandson, Toby Maag.

A graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday 8/22/23 at 10:00am.
