Dorothy Mildred Szigethy

August 14, 1923 – April 12, 2014

Dorothy Mildred Szigethy, age 90, passed from this life on Saturday, April 12, 2014, after a well-lived life. She lived her life with grace and dignity, and left this life in grace and dignity.

Dorothy was born on August 14, 1923 to Fred and Gertrude Doscher in the Bronx, New York, living most of her life on Long Island in New York. She moved to Sterling, Virginia in 1995-96 after retiring from the Mineola Public School District. Dorothy had a long and fulfilling career as the assistant to the Superintendent of Schools.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband George J. Szigethy, parents Fred and Gertrude Doscher, sister Joan Reiners, and brother Fred Doscher.

Dorothy is survived by her children Robert Szigethy of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, Douglas Szigethy and wife Pam of Commack, NY, and Janet Rudorfer and husband David of Fairfax, VA. Her grandchildren; Jennifer, Tara, Rob, Carrie, Jaime, John, Jason and Jameson. Her great-grandchildren; Meghan, Tanner, Devin, Jordan, Maxwell, Evan and Cash.

Dorothy was a devoted wife, loving mother, beloved grandmother/great-grandmother and caring friend to all who knew her. She loved the beach, traveling, playing bridge, reading, entertaining and watching English dramas on TV. Her family meant the world to her and were the sunshine in her life. She was a blessing in the lives of all that knew her, left an indelible mark on us, and will be deeply missed. Her legacy of love and respect will live on in us all.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 3 p.m. at the Colonial Funeral Home (201 Edwards Ferry Road, Leesburg, VA 20176). All family and friends are welcome to attend. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Ferncliff Cemetary, Hartsdale, NY with her husband George at a future date.
