After a brief hospital stay, at the age of 83, Douglass Melville Kinner lost his long battle with Parkinson's on June 5, 2012 while at the Gainesville Health and Rehab Center.

Mr. Kinner was born at home on January 26, 1929 in Port Jefferson, New York. His parents were Howard Hulse Kinner and Edna Nickelson Kinner. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Martie; his two sons and their wives, Richard and Becky, and Donald and Mimi; and four grandchildren Amanda, married to Brian Bailey; Andrew, married to Sara; Keil and Kelsey. There are also two great grandchildren: Douglass Lee Kinner and Griffin Richard Bailey.

Doug attended Kew-Forest High School, in Forest Hills, New York, and spent his summers as an usher at The Great Auditorium of Ocean Grove New Jersey. Doug graduated in 1947. He attended Wagner College but left to pursue professional training in photography, his life long avocation. Doug practiced photography professionally for several years and his family benefitted from his photography skills throughout his lifetime.

He married Matilda Muriel Farmer on February 11, 1950 in the United Methodist Church of Richmond Hill, Queens, New York. They lived on Long Island, predominately in Kings Park, where Doug volunteered to help construct new additions on the United Methodist Church. He remained active in the church as Treasurer and Committee member from 1956 to 1983. He also was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America for over 15 years serving in various positions, including as a District Advancement Chairman. Doug was an avid model railroad train buff and a lifelong bowler, active in leagues wherever he lived. He had a special love for the Oakland Raiders but was a life-long fan of the NY Giants and, of course, the NY Yankees!

He worked at Airborne Instruments Laboratory, Inc., in Deer Park, New York, now part of Eaton Corporation. He began as a stock-boy and rose to a position as a purchasing agent in which he continued for 31 years. Upon retirement he and his wife moved to Florida, which had been a lifetime goal. Doug had begun boating on Long Island and was determined to enjoy it year-round. Once in Florida, Doug also resumed work, and with his wife they enjoyed a 13 year second career as travel agents,` during which they travelled extensively. Doug and Martie moved to Virginia to be near family in May 2011.
