Obituary

EDWARD J. BRUDER
"Every person carves his spot and fills the holes with light. And I pray someday I might light as bright as he."
-Conway Twitty's "That's My Job"

Beloved husband and father, Edward James Bruder (81) passed away on June 22, 2012 from kidney failure.

Born on July 24, 1930 and married to Antoinette "Toni" Cione (now deceased) on February 6th, 1966, Edward was known as a devoted husband and "the best father in the world." Although an expert in financial planning, he was best known for his love and devotion to his family. Even after decades of marriage, he still wrote poems to his wife on every major occasion. Edward Bruder epitomized the lyrics of Conway Twitty's song, "That's My Job" -- "That's my job that's what I do. Everything I do is because of you to keep you safe with me. That's my job you see."

At a singles dance at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Washington, D.C. Ed met Toni Cione. They married in 1965 and had a daughter, Susan, in 1966. Together they built a life for themselves in Rockville, Maryland, where they lived in the same house for over 45 years. Ed and Toni moved to Meadow Glen Assisted Living in Leesburg, VA in 2010 to be near their daughter and her family. Affectionately known as "Dad" by the staff at Meadow Glen, he was lovingly cared for by Jamie, Rita, Judy, Abie, Jessica, and the rest of the medical team.

Retired from American Speech Language and Hearing Association in 1991 after 27 years of service, Edward also served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a consummate dog lover. He is survived by and will always be in the hearts of his daughter Susan, son-in-law John, and step grandchildren Betsy and Jonathan – all of Leesburg, VA, and brother David Bruder and sister-in-law Eva of Cascade, Maryland.

A prayer service for Ed will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road, NE, Leesburg, Virginia 20176. Burial to follow at 1:00 p.m. in Gate of Heaven Cemetery 13801 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20906.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Friends of Homeless Animals at P.O. Box 415, Aldie VA 20105 or Evercare Hospice, 12018 Sunrise Valley Drive, Ste 400, Reston, VA 20191.
