Elizabeth (Betty) Tilton
November 13, 1951 – July 21, 2020
Betty Tilton, 68, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 21 st after a hard fought battle with colon cancer.
Betty was born on November 13, 1951 in Palacios, TX, to Robert Earl Price and Frances Price. As the daughter of a Presbyterian minister, she was active in her church, and she also enjoyed participating in musical theatre in high school. Betty attended Texas Tech University, during which time she met Bob, a United States Air Force officer. While taking on the transient life of a military spouse, she completed her undergraduate and master's degrees in Communication Disorders at Our Lady of the Lake University. Betty applied this knowledge as a speech therapist and special education teacher. Over the course of her career she left the teaching field and held various business and administrative roles. She was very active in Michelle's school and activities, and played a team mom role to several of her cheerleading squads.
Military life afforded Betty the opportunity to see the world. Betty and her family enjoyed living in several U.S. states as well as in Saudi Arabia and Italy. They traveled together to many places including Greece, England, Russia, Germany, and Egypt. As the ultimate "people person", Betty thrived on meeting many different people from different backgrounds and was a friend to everyone she met. She loved learning about the history, art, and architecture of other cultures.
Known for her contagious sense of humor, Betty aimed to keep people smiling and laughing. She often made covert trips to surprise friends and family at important moments. She also played good hearted pranks to keep people on their toes. She even once sent a belly dancer into Bob's staff meeting for his birthday! When recalling her, friends and family consistently used the word "FUN". She was a bright light in our lives, and while we will miss her terribly, we will all aim to keep that light alive through memories of her infectious laugh.
Her father, Earl, preceded Betty in death. She is survived by her mother, Frances Price, her husband of 47 years, Robert F. Tilton, Jr. (Bob), her daughter Michelle Tilton Garber, and her son-in-law Gregory Garber.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 27 th from 2-3 pm with the service directly following at 3 pm. While flowers are welcome, Betty was a huge dog lover. The family appreciates any donations made to an animal organization on Betty's behalf.
