Obituary

Elizabeth Anne (Stainsby) Young, "Lisa", was born in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada on December 29, 1953 to George D. Stainsby and Lillian A. (Hacking) Stainsby. Her father had served in the RCAF during World War II, and worked for Canadian Pacific Airlines after the war. The family moved to the U.S. shortly after her birth and she spent most of her childhood in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. As a youth, Mrs. Young traveled extensively throughout Canada, Europe and Mexico. Her hobbies included tennis, ice skating and skiing. She studied music and played the violin in her high school orchestra. Mrs. Young attended Grosse Pointe South High School, and graduated with Honors in 1971.

After high school, she received a B.S. in Nursing from the University of Michigan. While at Michigan, she met her future husband, Jim Young, who was studying Law. Lisa and Jim were married after graduation in September 1976, and moved to the D.C. area where Jim began his law career with Steptoe and Johnson. Lisa worked as an RN in the Emergency Dept. and the ICU at Virginia Hospital Center. She also worked as a Clinical Instructor for the George Mason University Nursing Program.

Following the birth of Kathryn in 1982, she decided to become a full-time mom.

Jim and Lisa attended and hosted Bridge tournaments with family and friends around the D.C. area.

Jim, Lisa, and the family enjoyed attending musical performances at the Kennedy Center as well as local productions of Gilbert and Sullivan.

Lisa continued to ski every winter that she could talk her children into going with her.

Lisa enjoyed her two dogs, Chester and Madeline.

The Youngs most recently lived in Great Falls, and their three children, Jon, Kathryn and Caroline attended Loudon Country Day School and Langley High School. She was predeceased by her husband in 2007. She is survived by her loving family; her son Jonathan W. Young of Reston, VA., daughters Kathryn L. (Young) Ruby of Hatboro, PA and Caroline A. Young of Great Falls, VA.; son-in-law Justin Ruby, and sister Patricia (Stainsby) Gast and family of Saratoga, CA.
