Ellen Flippo Wall, Leesburg native and owner of the historic Laurel Brigade Inn restaurant, died Wednesday October 10, 2012 at Inova Loudoun Hospital. She was surrounded by family and friends.
Born in 1932 to Roy M. and Charlsie (Upton) Flippo, Wall grew up in Leesburg with her parents and younger siblings, Martha and Roy. A graduate of Loudoun County Public Schools, she went on to earn a degree in History from the University of Kentucky. After living in Chicago for a brief time she returned to Leesburg to work at her father's restaurant, the Laurel Brigade Inn.
Wall eventually took over ownership of the Inn, and over the next 40 years went on to build it into a local institution in the heart of the downtown Leesburg business district. As a prominent citizen of the community and member of the Leesburg United Methodist Church and the Rotary Club of Leesburg, she affected everyone she knew with her generosity, integrity and compassionate spirit. She loved to read and travel, championed education, worked hard, and remained dedicated to family. She lived life to its fullest, never letting Marfan syndrome or blindness limit her pursuit of knowledge or success.
Ms. Wall is survived by her sister, Martha Flippo Vanderhoof, 9 nieces and nephews, and 15 grand nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents and brother, Roy M. Flippo, Jr.
