Obituary

Quiet and gentle to the world, bold and strong to self and family. This is how one would describe Elwood Simpson. Mr. Simpson passed away on November 12, 2009 at the age of 71. Born in Lorton, Virginia, he was the son of Samual Garrison and Annie Lee (Cornwell) Simpson. Before moving to Sterling, Virginia, Mr. Simpson lived in Gilbert's Corner (in Loudoun County, Virginia) where he met and married Barbara, his wife of 51 years.

He was known by his family to be very particular, a perfectionist. Never one to boast, Mr. Simpson was a man of many talents. He made use of these talents in many ways. Upon moving to Sterling, Virginia, he and wife, Barbara purchased a vacant schoolhouse. Mr. Simpson totally renovated the building inside and out, turning it into a four bedroom home for his family. Their home was known to have an inviting country style front porch with large white columns. Many happy hours were spent sitting together on their porch. Along with his construction talent came knowledge of being mechanically inclined. He owned and operated Simpson's Generator Shop where he repaired generators and alternators for 25 years.

Mr. Simpson and his wife lived happily in Sterling for 50 years and were blessed with 3 children. He was very proud of his children. When the grandchildren came along, he was thrilled and spent many happy hours being grandfather to those six grandchildren. As the grandchildren grew, Mr. Simpson's mischievous side was shown. He loved tormenting the grandchildren. And they loved playing their pranks on him.

He will be dearly missed. But his memories will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. A visitation will be held on Monday, November 16, 2009 between 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd. NE, Leesburg, VA 20176. In his honor, a service will be held 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to Vista Hospice, Tyson's Pond II, suite 450, 1604 spring Hill Rd. Vienna, VA 22182
