Emily Olsen White, of Ashburn, VA, formerly of Pine Knoll Shores, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at the age of 93.
She was born in Brooklyn, NY, on Easter Sunday in 1922. After her father passed away in 1926, she lived with relatives in Massachusetts while her mother went back to work as a domestic.
White serviced in the US Army WAAC during WW2, and served in the motor pool at Fort Campbell, KY, and then as a WAAC recruiter in Gary, IN, where she met her husband, Dale Baker White. They were married in February 1945.
After the war, he went back to work for the United Press and they moved to London, England. They lived in Europe (London and Frankfurt am Main) from November 1946 until July 1955.
Their daughter, Judith Margaret, was born in Frankfurt am Main, in December 1954.
Upon returning to the states, White held a number of clerical jobs before working for the U.S. Postal Service. Mr. White died in February 1977, and Mrs. White retired shortly thereafter and moved to Pine Knoll Shores in the late 1970s.
During the 1980s and 1990s, she was a town commissioner for the Town of Pine Knoll Shores, serving as Police Commissioner and also as Emergency Services Commissioner. In addition, she served on the tri-county library board.
She moved to Ashburn, VA, in 2003, and lived with her daughter, Judi, and son-in-law, Steve Green.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 starting at 3:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd NE, Leesburg, VA. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Capital Caring Hospice.
