IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Erik Adam
Hansen, Sr.
July 16, 1964 – February 28, 2018
Erik Adam Hansen was born in Bethesda, MD in July, 1964 to parents Royce and Joy, a Navy doctor in his residency and a piano teacher. Almost from birth his mother declared that she would not call him Erik she would call him Adam - an unconventional move that would be imitated, for each of his young doting siblings declared their own special adoring nicknames for him, as did his Grandfather. But, like his father, his middle name followed him for all of his life.
The youngest of the four siblings, Adam was an energetic and enthusiastic child. He grew up in Bethesda, MD, Pocatello, ID, and Arlington, VA in a home where the piano was the centerpiece, guitars and voices rang out, and turntables spun vinyl.
As a high school student, Adam had many friends and many adventures. He enjoyed school drama productions and excelled at gymnastics. As a young adult, Adam was a diligent and dedicated worker who earned respect from his peers and promotions from his supervisors. Adam worked hard at everything he tried.
Of all the challenges he undertook, his most proud accomplishment was raising two children, Erik and Anna, in Leesburg, VA, and of being their devoted father.
Adam began his 20 year career in mortgage banking in Northern Virginia in the 1990s. Ultimately, his job took him to Warwick, Rhode Island where he and Erik lived for his last six years.
Throughout his career as a mortgage banker, Adam engaged the appreciation of his teams and his colleagues. He is fondly remembered by his coworkers for the camaraderie he created, for his sense humor, and for his home cooked meals.
Adam was appreciated by his friends for his encyclopedic knowledge of 70's and 80's rock music, and for his signature aesthetic style of wearing a pocket T-shirt with jeans.
Adam leaves behind his two children, Erik and Anna, and his Granddaughter, Hadassah. He also leaves three siblings, three nieces, and one nephew.
Godspeed, Adam. You will be missed.
