Eugene L. Hamrick, 88, of Virginia Beach, VA and formerly of Lovettsville, VA, went Home to be with the Lord on December 5, 2023. He was born May 9, 1935 in Washington D.C. to the late Carl H. Hamrick and the late Marjorie M. (Huffman) Hamrick.
Mr. Hamrick received his education in Washington, D.C., graduating in 1953 from Western High School, with further studies at George Washington University and the University of Virginia.
From 1954 until 1962, Mr. Hamrick served our Country with the U.S. Army, both on Active Duty and Reserves.
Mr. Hamrick was employed for over 30 years with the U.S. Geological Survey in Reston, Virginia, retiring in 1984 as the Administrative Officer for the Eastern Mapping Center. His avocation was in radio, serving as a part-time announcer with WTRI in Brunswick, MD from 1980 until 1986, and later in a fulltime capacity with WFMD & WFRE in Frederick, MD from 1984 until 1993. After relocating to Virginia Beach, he joined WJLZ, a Christian radio station, as a volunteer, serving from 1999 until 2003.
Mr. Hamrick spent 17 years in the Martial Arts, earning a Black Belt in Judo. He was a member and past President of the NOVA Judo Club.
Mr. Hamrick was an active member of his community, serving for 2 ½ years as a volunteer Financial Advisor for the Loudoun County Transitional Program and 8 years on the Association Board where he resided in Virginia Beach, earning him the affectionate title of "the Mayor of Bishop Court."
At the time of his passing, Mr. Hamrick was a member of Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburg, VA where his son, Gary Hamrick, serves as the Senior Pastor.
Mr. Hamrick was preceded in death by his father and mother, Carl and Marjorie Hamrick, his brother, Rev. Kenneth C. Hamrick, and his nephew David Hamrick.
He is survived by his daughter, Shari Hogan of Virginia Beach, VA, his son, Pastor Gary Hamrick (Terri) of Leesburg, VA; five grandchildren: Tyler Hamrick (Cayla), Austin Hamrick (Morgan), Lindsey Silvernale (Andrew), Christina Hogan (C.J.), and Cory Hogan; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by four nephews: Wesley, James, Mark, and Jonathan Hamrick
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, at 11:00am at Cornerstone Chapel, 650 Battlefield Parkway, SE, Leesburg, VA 20175.
Interment will be with family and close friends at Fairfax Memorial Park in Fairfax, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburg, VA (cornerstonechapel.net).
