Loving mother and friend of many. Eugenia G. (Jean) Carter, formerly of Leesburg, Virginia; passed away on February 22, 2011 while a resident of Sunrise of Hunter Mill in Oakton, Virginia. Born in Union, South Carolina on January 19, 1924, she was one of five sisters born to James and Lillie (Foster) Garner. After graduating from high school, Eugenia married William Edgar Carter, who predeceased her. They were blessed with a son, Theron Duane Carter. She later moved from Newport News, Virginia to Leesburg, Virginia where she resided for 47 years.
Dedicated to her work as Manager of Operator Services, Jean retired from C&P Telephone Company (Verizon) after 49 years of service. She was a longtime member of the Leesburg Baptist Church. She participated in other organizations as well; holding membership in the Loudoun Business and Professional Women's Organization (BPW) and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Eugenia's memories will be carried on by her many friends and surviving family: her son and daughter-in-law Theron and Dena Carter of Vienna, VA; sister Edna Goudelock of Gaffney, SC; grandchildren William Michael Carter, John Tyler Carter, and Alex Olivia Carter, her nieces, nephews and extended family from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
A time for gathering of family and friends has been scheduled for Sunday, March 20, 2011 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd, NE, Leesburg, VA 20176 with her final resting place to be next to her husband in Newport News, VA.
The family would like to express gratitude to all who cared for Jean; the many friends, neighbors, volunteers, and Sunrise staff who supported and enriched her final years.
