IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Evelyn "Evy"
Koeblin Roberts
November 1, 2023
Evelyn "Evy" Koeblin Roberts, of Glen Allen, Virginia and Hopewell, New Jersey passed away peacefully on November 1, 2023 at the age of 82. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Peter Vernon Roberts and survived by her children, Laura TeKrony, Heather Nissly and Peter Vernon Roberts, Jr., and her grandchildren, Dave, Charlotte, Claire, Lindsay, Abby, Peter, and Sadie Grace.
Evy grew up in Ambler, Pennsylvania and attended Penn State University. She then received a Master's of Education from Temple University. After graduating, Evy taught elementary school in Pennsylvania. While a teacher, she met her husband, Peter Vernon Roberts. Evy and Peter went on to raise three children in Hopewell, New Jersey. Evy enjoyed focusing her time on her children, gardening, sports, and the large farm in Hopewell. The farm was a great source of comfort and pride for Evy where she raised countless animals--the sheep being her most favored.
Evy was an avid golfer and excelled at numerous sports. She earned accolades as a paddle tennis player and golfer at The Bedens Brook Club in New Jersey. You knew you were up for a fun match when you saw Evy on the court or tee box. Evy was also a sports fan, particularly of the New Jersey Devils and the New York Giants. She enjoyed spending Sundays with her daughter's family cheering on her team.
Evy's greatest love was her family and her beloved grandchildren. She took time to share her love of gardening with them and her passion for butterflies. Her love for insects, plants, and nature led her to become a Master Gardener, which she remained throughout her life. She enjoyed the outdoors and teaching others how to grow native plants for pollinators. As a Master Gardener in Mercer County, she started a "Bug Festival" to share the many merits of garden-friendly bugs. During her time in Henrico County, she designed and planted native gardens for the community, parks, and schools. Evy enjoyed her own pollinator-friendly garden, where she raised caterpillars to repopulate Monarch butterflies.
Evy will be remembered for the joy and caring she spread to others in her life. Evy's legacy extends beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of many with her kindness, passion, creativity, and infectious laugh. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
A celebration of Evy Roberts' remarkable life is scheduled on Saturday, June 1st at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Henrico Master Gardeners or The Sourland Conservancy where the farm was located.
