Funeral Mass
St. John the Apostle Catholic Church
1:30 - 2:30 pm (Eastern time)
Frances Marion (née Bankowski) Greenstine, 83, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on January 6, 2026. She was born on February 15, 1942, in Pittsburgh, PA. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank Edward Bankowski and Mary (née Ostrowski) Bankowski, and her sister, Maryanne Bankowski Slagle.
Growing up in Pittsburgh, Fran was raised in the Roman Catholic faith and attended St. Augustine. She loved her Polish heritage – the songs, traditions, and especially the food. She took an early interest in reading, using this passion to help teach children with learning difficulties to read. In her spare time, you could often find her cooking, singing, dancing, painting, shopping, crocheting, knitting, or spending time with her family.
Fran is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Robert B. Greenstine; her children, Andrea (Sean) O’Hara, Rob (Julia) Greenstine, and Alicia (Nick) Curran; and her grandchildren, Cullen (Madison), Ian, Lindsey, Nate, Emma, Will, Bobby, and Mary Claire. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother, and her family will remember her kindness and friendliness to all. Her spirit will continue to inspire us.
A funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, January 14 at 1:30 PM at St. John the Apostle in Leesburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the following charities, which represent Frances’ love and compassion towards animals: The Blue Ridge Wildlife Center or The Humane Society of Loudoun County.
