Francine Wood, nee Oudoux, 88, of Waterford, died at home Saturday, April 3rd. Born in Cherbourg, France, she trained as a teacher in pre-war Normandy; a member of that "Great Generation". She survived the German occupation and witnessed the liberation of her country by Allied forces in June 1944. A career U.S. Army wife, she and her family accompanied her husband through Europe and the Far East. She ensured her children appreciated the diverse cultures and customs of each country visited. She was predeceased by her husband James, and son Jean-François, Wood. She is survived by her daughters: Jacqueline Wood-Ellis of Hamilton and Karen Terry of Centreville, sisters Gisele Smith and Jacqueline McGregor of Mt. Carmel, Ill.; grandchildren Michelle Ellis Anderson, Gregory and Larissa Terry, and great-granddaughter Virginia Anderson. She was loved by all who knew her. A private interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hamilton Rescue Squad, P.O.
