IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frank Joseph
Avvisato, Jr.
August 12, 1968 – November 24, 2021
Frank Joseph Avvisato, Jr. (August 12, 1968 – November 24, 2021) passed away peacefully at Inova Loudoun hospital after a valiant two-year battle with throat cancer. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Karen, his children Anthony (19) and Kaylie (15), of Leesburg, VA.
Frank was born in Old Forge, PA as the oldest of two children. He was a standout athlete at Scranton Preparatory School. A stellar pitching prospect, after high school, Frank left Pennsylvania to attend and play baseball for George Washington University in Washington, DC, where he also achieved his Masters' Degree. Upon graduation, he began his lengthy career with the Environmental Protection Agency.
Frank was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, coach, and friend. One fortunate day on the softball field, he met the love of his life, Karen. They were married on October 17, 1998 and in 2001 welcomed Anthony, followed in 2006 by his princess, Kaylie. Frank's greatest joys in life were his children. He was their homework motivator, biggest cheerleader on the field and off, and never missed a game or Starbucks date with his daughter.
Frank was an enthusiastic fan of both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Phillies as well as Notre Dame. He was an avid outdoorsman and master of the kitchen, delighting everyone with his famous Italian comfort food. Frank's family considered him the dog whisperer and he was worshiped by his two dogs, Bella and Skye.
He passed his love of sports onto not just his own children, but many others in the community through his active coaching career in Northern Virginia including Central Loudoun Little League, Central Loudoun Basketball League, Central Loudoun Youth Football League and Northern Virginia Travel Baseball League. He measured the success of a season, not on wins and losses, but on the lessons learned and comradery built.
Frank was predeceased by his father, Frank Joseph Avvisato, Sr of Old Forge, PA. He is also survived by his mother, Sandra Avvisato and sister, Kerri Avvisato both of Old Forge, PA; his mother-in-law, Donna Burch of Vienna, VA; sister-in-law, Kristy Bergman of Ashburn, VA; brother-in-law, Kenneth Burch (Kelly) of Sterling, VA, and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
