Obituary

Frank Edward Peacock of Leesburg, Virginia lost his long battle with Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA), a type of frontotemporal dementia, on September 1st 2024. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather and will be incredibly missed by all who had the chance to know him.

He was born on January 16th, 1942, in Bristol, England to Frank and Edith Peacock. He was the eldest of six children – Anne, Lionel, twins Marian and Dennis, and Steven. He spent his formative years travelling the world for work, in a handful of different professions.

He served a long tenure in the British Army, stationed around the world in different countries including Singapore and Germany. After leaving the army, Frank went on to study Economics in Australia where he became a citizen and a college professor as well as a scuba diving instructor. He later transitioned into the role of Project Management where he oversaw the construction of dams to provide clean water in countries around the world such as Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Yemen, Bangladesh, Slovenia, and many others. This career brought him to Ethiopia in 1990 where he met his future wife, Amsale, at a dinner party at the British Embassy. They married in 1991 and moved to America with their kids in 1997, where they remained permanently.

Frank was a fierce cook known for his five-course meals, loved to garden, and had a penchant for dark chocolate and a cold beer. He absolutely adored listening to all genres of music, but especially the blues. He passed on his love of the arts to his kids who all picked up an instrument as soon as they could.

He had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor and could make anyone laugh even in the driest of moments. He was a staunch free thinker, always ahead of the curve on social issues and extremely empathetic. He admirably brought his wife's extended family to a land of opportunity, supported them, and helped set them up for a wonderful life ahead.

He is survived by his wife, Amsale Peacock, who was his primary caregiver for the last eight years, as well as his seven children – Julie and Gary, from his first marriage, who reside in Europe, Yonathan and Aynalem who he selflessly took in as his own and brought from Ethiopia, and Christina, Alex, and Miriam from his final marriage – along with many grandkids.

He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. We wish him peace and rest as he joins his granddaughter who recently passed. The family takes solace in knowing that neither of them will be alone.
