Franklin Albert Joyce, age 85, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2017 in Leesburg, VA. Frank was born on March 31, 1932. He was the last of four children born to Charles DeCou Joyce and Marguerite Eleanora Sansbury. He is survived his sister, Evelyn Needles, and his five children, Patricia Calpin, Susan Myers, Franklin Joyce, Jr., Judith Wrenn and Betsy Church and eight grandchildren - Keith Matthew Elliott, Ryan Wrenn, Jennifer Elliott, Shelby LaTurno, Bethany Myers, Hunter Church and Morgan Church, and six great grandchildren - Matthew Elliott, Kristopher Elliott, Marley Elliott, Norah Elliott,  Teague and Velzy LaTurno.

Frank grew up as a young child in the Anacostia area of Washington, DC and then moved with his family to the Lyon Village in Arlington near his father's DeSoto dealership also in Arlington, VA.

In 1950, he met Eileen Mudd at a Knights of Columbus dance in downtown DC and went on their first date together in September of that year. Though he thought she would never go on a 2nd date with him they married just 2 years later on October 30, 1952 after Eileen finished high school that same year. Frank's deployment in the United States Navy took the young couple to Jacksonville and Memphis, though they made it back to the DC area in time to have their first child, Patricia, in 1953. They would settle in Arlington and remain there for the next fifty years.

Susan followed in 1954, then Frank, Jr in 1956. In 1960, the same day their fourth child, Judith, entered the world they moved into the house on Powhatan Street which they would call home the longest. Frank, Sr. took ownership of his father's car repair business. He worked  hard to support his family. Undeterred by almost two decades of such efforts, they welcomed her fifth and final child, Betsy, into the world in 1972.

Frank retired in the early 2000s.  He and Eileen moved to Ashburn in 2003 to be closer to their children, all of which continue to spend at least part of their time in the DC area.

The family will be holding a graveside service for Frank Joyce, Sr. at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, 3411 Arlington Blvd, Arlington, VA 22201, on Monday, November 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a luncheon at the Knights of Columbus, 5115 Little Falls Rd, Arlington, VA 22207.
