Obituary

On Friday, April 3, 2020, George Robert "Bob" Grubbs, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away at the age of 87.

Bob was born on October 2, 1932 in Frederick County, VA to Kinzel B. Grubbs and Annie Carson Grubbs.  He served in the Korean War in Seoul, Japan from 1954 - 1956 and had a career with the US Postal service, at Dulles Airport from 1961 - 1987.

Bob married the love of his life, Betty Jean "Bonnie" Grubbs, whom he met on a blind date in March 1958, and married on June 7, 1958 in Rockville, MD.

The couple moved to Leesburg in 1960.  They raised two sons, Robert "Scott" (Liz) and James "Todd" (Stephanie) and a daughter, Beverly (Mike), and had five grandchildren, Kelsey, Holly, McKenzie, Delaney, and Mick.

Bob had a passion for gardening and always had flowerpots of clippings to root new plants and a bountiful garden.  He was self-taught on the drums and loved to tell stories of when he would sit in with Patsy Cline when she was visiting Winchester.

Bob said his grandmother told him to find his purpose in life, and his was to help anyone he could.  He coached little league football, was active in the cub scouts, and even gave his car to a family he didn't know when they stopped at the farmer's market he worked at during retirement.  Bob held many positions in the Metropolitan Lodge of Masons No. 161, serving as Grand Master in the early 80's.

After his wife passed away, he moved to Chesapeake, VA to be close to his grandchildren and volunteered for many years for the March of Dimes and was active in the Trinity Methodist Church in Cape Charles, VA.

Bob was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his ability to make friends easily with his kind and compassionate spirit.  He never met a stranger and kids loved him.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, Kinzel, mother, Annie and his siblings, Kinzel "Ken" Jr., Helen and James "Jimmy".

He is survived by his three children and five grandchildren.

Considering current world events, a private grave side service will be held at this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to your favorite charity, or to Lewy Body Dementia Foundation in Bob's memory.
