Mr. George Edward Matthews Jr., made his heavenly transition on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at the age of 65.  He was born on March 4, 1955 in Detroit, Michigan to Hattie Lee Hicks and George Edward Matthews Sr.

George Edward graduated from Pershing High School in 1972 where he was the captain of the swim team. He received an Associates degree in Electrical Electronic Technology at Ohio Institute of Technology (DeVry University) 1974. George married JoAnn Lawrence in 1983 and the couple moved to Northern Virginia where they would start and continue to raise their family. They had their one and only daughter, Danielle Nekesa, in  October 1986. George worked as a Digital Technician for the American Embassy, traveling to Africa, Europe, and Asia. Other professions to include Satellite Repair Technician, Maintenance Engineer Specialist, and Product Engineer.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 37 years, JoAnn Matthews; daughter, Danielle Matthews, Virginia; brother, Henry Alex Smith, Michigan; sisters, Sherry Bolden, Michigan; Nannette Justice, Michigan; step-father, Harold Henry, Michigan; mother-in-law, Dollie Mae Lawrence, Michigan; sister-in-laws Dorothy Smith, Indiana; Mary Lawrence, Michigan; Shiela Terry(Michael), Florida; Peggy Lawrence, Georgia; close cousins, David Lawrence Jr. (Lavern), Maryland; Reggie Hicks, Michigan; Jaqueline Lawrence, Michigan; aunt, Beatrice Bender (Jim), Michigan; the entire Lacy Family of Northern Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

George Edwards Matthews Jr, was preceded in death by his mother, Hattie Lee Henry; father, Henry Smitth.

George Edward enjoyed watching movies, eating his wife's home cooked meals, exercising, driving fast cars, and listening to his music...LOUD! His infectious laugh and smile along with his genuinely fun and entertaining personality will forever remain in our hearts.
