Obituary

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of George "Bud" Mepham, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Bud was born on September 30th, 1932, to George Henry and Mary Inez New Mepham in Williamsburg, Virginia. He proudly served in the United States Army with a stationing in Austria, where he had the unique privilege of witnessing the production of the timeless classic, The Sound of Music.

Bud married Kay Thomasson on May 16th, 1983, and he and his "Butterfly" most recently celebrated 40 years of marriage. They, with their daughters Donna and Linda, lovingly established their home together in Alexandria, Virginia. Bud and Kay were regular patrons of Renee's Supper and Club where they could be found sweeping the dance floor together hand-in-hand and socializing with their many groups of friends.

"Bars by Bud" was established in 1976 where Bud built hundreds of custom bars all across the Northern Virginia area. Establishing his shop brought immense joy not only to his life but to the residents of Merrifield, Virginia. He possessed extraordinary craftsmanship skills as a woodworker, which were complemented by his role as a distinguished proprietor.

Bud is survived by his wife Kay Mepham, daughter Donna Hutchinson (Peter), daughter Linda Schemm Smith (James), granddaughters Jessica (Chad), Kaitlyn (Chris), Taylor, and Victoria, grandson Aidan, and great-granddaughters Vail, McKenzie, Milah, Macey, and Madilyn. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Mary, and close friend Joyce. Bud was our charming, kind, larger-than-life patriarch, and we will miss him greatly.
