MOORE, George Henry, 100 - Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, in Leesburg, Virginia. George was born March 4th, 1916 in Philadelphia, PA and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. George was preceded in death by his parents William R. and Henrietta D. Moore, his beloved wife Ruth in 2013 and son, Randall in 1993.

After high school, George spent time in the United States Merchant Marine as an able seaman for Sun Oil in Philadelphia. During World War II, George was a form carpenter and metalsmith at the New York Shipyard in Camden, NJ where cruisers and landing craft were built for the war effort. After the war, George moved to Woodbury, NJ and started his own business, the George H. Moore Roofing & Sheet Metal Company. Among the last of a dying breed of craftsmen, George took great pride in his expertise as a tinsmith and coppersmith specializing in cornice work, church steeples, standing seam, mansard and bay window roofs. George married the love of his life, Ruth S. Moore, on May 30, 1958 in Woodbury Heights, NJ where they settled and raised their family. George was a Master Mason at Mozart Lodge #121 in Cherry Hill, NJ and a Shriner at the Crescent Temple in Collingswood, NJ. After 40 years in business, George and Ruth retired to Seaville, and later to Marmora, NJ. George was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Woodbury Heights since 1958, and the Saint Peters United Methodist Church of Ocean City since 1986. George is survived by his son Daniel Moore (Debbie); grandsons, Jeffrey and Trevor Moore and a host of loving relatives, nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his brothers Elwood and Benjamin Moore and sister, Mary Louise Adams.

A Memorial Service celebrating George's life will be held Saturday, ¬¬¬May 21st, 2016 at St. Peters United Methodist Church at 501 East 8th Street, Ocean City, NJ; Family will greet relatives and friends at 10:30 a.m. The Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon following the service. George's desire was to donate his body to science, to help further the study of medicine at the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. His final resting place will be the Northwood Cemetery in Philadelphia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Peters United Methodist Church, Ocean City, NJ 08226.
