IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gerald Dean
Snyder
April 22, 1937 – July 18, 2022
Gerald "Jerry" Snyder passed away on July 18, 2022, surrounded by his family.
Jerry, also known as Gampa, was born and raised in Red Lion, PA. Born on April 22, 1937, to Grover and Velma Snyder, Jerry was also loved by Flossie Knaub and his stepsister, Charmaine Senft.
A 1955 graduate of Red Lion High School, where he played football, track, and basketball, Jerry cherished his many friends and enjoyed playing pranks on them. After high school, Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 4th and was named honor man of his company. He served in the Navy as a Petty Officer, 2 nd Class, for four years and then joined the Naval Reserves. In 1960, he attended Millersville University, where he studied Psychology and U.S. History, played football and track, and continued his antics. After graduating, Jerry played semi-pro football with the Red Lion Lions and was recruited to play for the Montreal Alouettes. Receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1967, Jerry began working for the National Security Agency in Fort Meade, MD. It was there that he met the love of his life, Susan.
Jerry lived a long, happy life. He instilled strong family values and a positive attitude to those around him. Everyone he met was a friend. There was always a gleam in his eye and a story to share. He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan; children, Jennifer (Michael) Fox and Jill (Jimmy) Lewandowski; and was the best Gampa ever to his four grandchildren - Kalyn, Jack, Alec and Kylie. He passed along his sense of humor and joking spirit to his children and grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to gather in his honor for a viewing at the Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road, NE, Leesburg, VA 20176, on July 24, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 25, at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Sterling, VA. Burial will follow at the St. John the Apostle Catholic Church Cemetery located in Leesburg, VA.
Flowers may be received at the Colonial Funeral Home. Donations may be sent to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at cdceportal.va.gov/donate_online. Our utmost thanks to Dr. Kenneth Brooks for keeping Jerry alive for so long.
