A well known member of the community, Gloria H. Lipscomb, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2009 at Inova Loudoun Hospital. She was 75 years old. Mrs. Lipscomb was born in Nanjemoy, Maryland on November 20, 1933 to parents Herbert P. and Mary Elnora (Shannon) Henderson. She attended schools in La Plata, Maryland.

Many remember her being associated with her late husband, S. Ross Lipscomb, in their business Barber & Ross Building Supply in Leesburg, Virginia. But she was a lady of many talents. Known as an artist, she was also a local business woman.

Left behind to carry on her legacy are children Ronald Mitchell of Leesburg, Virginia; Greg Mitchell of Bluemont, Virginia; Sam Lipscomb of Denver, Colorado; stepchildren Rebecca Lipscomb of Lansdowne, Virginia and Bill Lipscomb of Purcellville, Virginia. Along
with her children, are grandchildren Gregory Mitchell II; Michelle Mitchell; Cosette Noell Lipscomb and step grandchildren Jenny Lipscomb and Daniel Lipscomb. Mrs. Lipscomb is also survived by her brother Roland Henderson of La Plata, Maryland. She was predeceased by her husband, S. Ross Lipscomb, parents Herbert P. Henderson and Mary Elnora Shannon and siblings Meredith Henderson; Alton Vaiden Henderson and Melvin Henderson.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road, NE, Leesburg, Virginia 20176. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2009 starting at 4:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 27, 2009 at Union Cemetery in Leesburg, Virginia starting at 10:00 a.m. Dr. Terry Dohm will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be sent in her honor to the American Cancer Society, 124 Park Street SE, Vienna, Virginia 22180-0699.
