Grace S. Blaisdell, 95, a three-year resident of Leesburg and longtime resident of Charlottesville, died of failure to thrive June 29 at Morningside House in Leesburg.
Mrs. Blaisdell was born in Bangor, Maine, September 20, 1913, to the late Richard S. and Agnes Horne Stevens. With her engineer husband she lived in numerous places in Maine, in Bolivia, and Asheville, North Carolina before moving to Charlottesville in 1957. She was known as an excellent cook and hostess, a skilled bridge player, and a loyal friend devoted to remembering everyone's birthday. In recent years she enjoyed entertaining others with stories from her long life and showed lively interest in every new person she met.
Mrs. Blaisdell's husband of 72 years, Col. Frank R. Blaisdell, also of Bangor, died in 2006. She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Leckie of Leesburg and Janet Metzler of Thousand Oaks, California; a sister, Janet Stevens of Sterling; two grandchildren, Steven Leckie of Rockville and Lauren L. Schempp of Portland, Oregon; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be held in Maine at a later date.
