Greg Allen Hudson
Celebration of Life
1970 - 2022
The family of Greg Hudson (loving husband, father and son, faithful brother, thoughtful godson, kind uncle, friend of everyone, opinionated political pot-stirrer, frustrated weatherman, wannabe disc jockey, selfless giver of gifts and surprises, community advocate, champion of the underdog and supporter of the less fortunate, and - not to be forgotten - Centreville SYA Little League "last one out" all-star, and extraordinary track athlete for Chantilly High School's 1988 season) announce that Greg passed away unexpectedly at his home in Leesburg, Virginia, on Wednesday August 10, 2022.
Greg was born June 26, 1970, in Washington, D.C. to Joe and Nancy Hudson. He grew up in Centreville, Virginia, graduating from Chantilly High School in 1988. Sometime along the way he met a neighborhood girl named Jeanne, likely near the corner where Algretus and Lock Drives join on the "sunny side" of Country Club Manor, perhaps during a spirited game of whiffle ball, kick the can, or hide n' seek. After high school, Greg and Jeannie reconnected at the wedding of a childhood neighbor and mutual friend. They were married on September 23, 1995, at Centreville Methodist Church, and were later blessed with their sons, Ryan and Joey.
Greg's joys in life were many. Among them were his work as the Senior Learning Environment Specialist for School Specialty, Inc. He was an avid and loyal sports fan, always cheering on the Washington Capitals, Washington Nationals, and the Washington "Redskins." Most of all, Greg cherished his family, who meant everything to him, and with whom he enjoyed annual family trips to the Outer Banks, and so many other adventures which he took great pride in planning.
Greg's passions were many and diverse, and included local news and community events, whichever local sports team was in season, and his lifelong interest in weather and weather forecasting. His projects included "All About Leesburg and Loudoun," a local news and information web site he founded. He recently partnered with his friend Kevin Carter to create "Storm Team Loco," a web news service for weather-related events in and around the Washington, D.C. area. Early on, he published "The Daily Greg," an online chronicle of the events of the day, including the triumphs, struggles, and challenges of the people he met, and the many varied things that captured his attention.
Other passions included music, photography, and community service. He was appointed to serve a term on the Loudoun County Fiscal Impact Committee, and also served as the Vice Chair on the Town of Leesburg's Economic Development Commission, and on its Diversity Task Force. Additionally, he was Co-Director of the First Responders Cup Softball Tournament, an event held annually to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and to celebrate the heroism of the Arlington Fire and Police who were first to the Pentagon on 9/11. Greg was slated to begin work on this year's tournament at the time of his passing.
Greg is survived by his wife Jeanne, and sons Ryan and Joey; parents Joe and Nancy; sister Lynn Hudson Kincaid and husband Ken; nephew Cameron Kincaid and wife Christina, and great niece Emberly; nephew Hunter (Jake) Kincaid; brother Bryan Hudson and wife Jessica, and nephews Joseph, Zackary and Matthew; sister-in-law Diana Turley and husband Jeff, and nephew Shaun and niece Jordan; brother-in-law Brian Sanderson and wife Sheila, and nephews Christopher, Patrick, and Jimmy, and niece Connie; in-laws Gloria Hetrick and Russell Sanderson; and god parents Jim and Gail Gould.
Greg was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents Howard and Mildred Walters, and Bill and Vera Gordon.
The family dogs, Rascal, Barney, and Pickles were proud to be Greg's faithful companions.
