Harrison G. Hawthorne
October 27, 1921--May 15, 2015
Harrison G. Hawthorne, age 93, passed away peacefully with family at his bedside on the afternoon of May 15, 2015, from complications associated with Parkinson's disease. Harrison and his twin brother, Charles, were born October 27, 1921 in Bluemont, Virginia to Katherine H. (nee Brewer) and Charles T. Hawthorne.
Harrison graduated from Leesburg High School in Virginia and joined the Navy in September 1942. Following the war, he left the Navy and joined the Air Force and, as a skilled aircraft engineer, supported the Berlin Airlift. He later served two duty tours in the Korean War and three tours during the Vietnam war. Harrison participated in the deployment of the DEW (Distant Early Warning) Line project that installed radar stations in the Canadian artic. He retired from the Air Force in 1974 as a Chief Master Sergeant following 30 years of service.
Harrison had many fond memories of travels around the United States and the world including a two year stay in Iran while serving in the Air Force. After retiring, he returned to Iran for two years as an advisor for the Imperial Iranian Air Force. For the remainder of his life, Harrison lived in Loudoun County, Virginia - the place of his birth - which he claimed to be one of the most beautiful places he had ever been.
Harrison is predeceased by his twin brother, and is survived by his wife of 55 years and their daughter.
Honoring Harrison's wishes, family and friends are invited to a graveside service at Union Cemetery in Leesburg, VA at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2015.
