February 18, 1931 – February 25, 2023
Hazel Dove Farris Lemon, 92, of Loudoun County, passed away on February 25, 2023 at Heritage Hall in Leesburg, Virginia. Hazel was 1 of 11 children. She was born on February 18, 1931, to Matthew Elijah Farris, Sr. and Myrtle Elizabeth Phillips Farris. In 1938, Hazel's mother passed away and her father remarried two years later to Ethel Marie Turman.
Hazel was survived by her two daughters, Linda Joanne Lemon Hickman and Nancy Lee Lemon Hatcher, her brothers and sisters, Charles Lucas Farris, Ruth Marie Farris Moore, Mandy Louise Farris Baun, and Fred Lee Farris, Sr., 5 grandchildren: Stacey Williams, Zack Hickman, Jeff Hickman, Kendra Webster, and Rachel Crage; 11 great grandchildren: Sam Diehl, Stephanie Castillo, Austin Hickman, Chesney Dingus, Jessica Hickman, Parker Hickman, Meadow Hickman, Evelyn Webster, Sahalie Webster, Ariel Crage, and Axel Crage; and 5 great, great grandchildren: Kylie Castillo, Leo Castillo, Tessa Castillo, Payton Diehl, and Rilee Diehl.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Carlton Lemon, her father and two mothers, three sisters Annie Elizabeth Farris Hawes, Mary Elizabeth Farris Morrison, and Nancy Jane Farris Edwards, and three brothers, David Leonard Farris, Matthew Elijah Farris, Jr., and Claude "Pete" Franklin Farris.
Hazel grew up on Harrison Island outside of Leesburg, Virginia. After she graduated high school, she moved off the island and became a candy-striper at Loudoun Hospital when it first opened. She then married William Lemon December 1, 1949, and they had two daughters, Linda and Nancy. Hazel was baptized and served Jehovah God most of her life and spent every Tuesday with her brother Pete, her sister Annie, and sister-in-law Melva applying Matthew 28:19, 20 "to go therefore and make disciples." Hazel was known for her cinnamon buns by many. She enjoyed gardening and could be found tending her flowers and garden every morning and evening. She always had a kind word of comfort for those in need as many have expressed over the years. She had a love of children and after raising her own, she was very involved in her grandchildren's lives as well as Suzanne Mentzer-Rupp, Roberta George-Hawse, and John Hottel, just to name a few, who have fond memories of her too. Many also knew her as the "cleaning lady" who became part of the family to everyone she cleaned house for. Towards the end of her life, she battled with dementia and could be found at the nursing home making beds, cleaning, folding towels, and such.
