Obituary

HAZEL SPINKS LYNN

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Hazel Lynn (nee' Spinks).

Hazel was born December 5, 1925, in Loudoun County, Virgina, the daughter of William Henry Spinks and Lenah Shugars Spinks.

A native of Loudoun County, she resided most of her adult life in the home she and her late husband, Charles, built in Hamilton.  It was there they raised their 4 children.  She remained in that home until earlier this year when she needed more physical care than her daughters could provide.  It was unavoidable that she was moved into rehab for a short period and then into Heritage Hall Nursing and Rehab in Leesburg, where she passed away.

Although she was widowed at a young age, she dedicated her life to caring for her disabled son.  He was the apple of her eye and she did everything possible to protect him and ensure he would be cared for when she could no longer care for him herself.

Hazel loved the Lord and for many years attended the Hamilton Church of God, pastored by Rev. Paul Campbell. She enjoyed singing in church with her nephew who accompanied her with the guitar.  She also cherished the friendship and prayers provided to her by Pastor David DeBose and his wife, Nancy, of the Church of the Holy Scripture in Hamilton. It was only after her health started to deteriorate that she was no longer able to attend services.

She learned to drive a car after the death of her husband.  When she could no longer drive, she looked forward to going out for a car ride almost every afternoon. Even though she was riding in the back seat, she usually dictated where she wanted to go and McDonald's was always the first stop.

Hazel is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Gulick, Leesburg, VA, Patsy and Donald Larson, Purcellville, VA, Judith and David Hall, Leesburg, VA, her son, Charles Ricky Lynn, at home in Hamilton, her grandchildren, Teresa Chapman, Brian Gulick, Aaron Hall and Michael Hall, 2 great granddaughters, 1 great grandson and 2 great-great grandsons.

She was predeceased by her parents, and her husband, the love of her life, Charles W. Lynn, her 8 brothers, one of whom died in infancy, and 2 infant sisters, and 1 great-great granddaughter.

A graveside service will be held Monday, November 6, 2023, at 2 P.M. at Union Cemetery, 323 N. King Street, Leesburg, VA 20176. Funeral arrangements are provided by Colonial Funeral Home, Leesburg.
