Hazel Irene (Onderko) Brown, 89, formerly of Vienna and Ashburn, Virginia, passed away in the early morning of Sunday, June 6th, 2021 in Leesburg, Virginia. Born on August 18th, 1931 in Warren, Minnesota, she was the youngest child of Mike and Kathryn Onderko. Hazel was a graduate of Springboro High School, in Springboro, Pennsylvania.

Hazel enjoyed many travels with her husband of 55 years and the love of her life, Donald Brown of North Braddock, Pennsylvania. Spending much of her time overseas, Hazel and her family lived in locations including Bogota, Colombia, Nicosia, Cyprus, Athens, Greece, Upper Heyford,  England, Tokyo, Japan, and Manila, The Philippines, before returning to the Washington D.C.-Metropolitan area in 1978. There, she enjoyed a career of many years with the Central Intelligence Agency before retiring in 1993.

Greatly treasuring her friends, family, and loved ones, Hazel enjoyed providing a central gathering place for family to congregate.  She was a welcoming hostess and enjoyed hosting memorable parties and events for family and friends.  Throughout her life, she enjoyed gardening and was an avid cook, mastering recipes she acquired during her travels across the world as well as creating her own. Her family meant everything to her, and she was cherished and loved greatly by her family and by the many friends who became family.

Hazel is survived by three of her beloved children: her son, Michael Brown of Washington, D.C.; her son Donald Brown, Jr. and her daughter-in-law, Catherine Sterling Brown of Ashburn, VA; her daughter Sharon Brown Zeller and her son-in-law James Zeller, also of Ashburn, VA; her daughter-in-law Catherine Newman Brown, of Columbia, SC; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania and Arizona.
