Obituary

Helen Adele Smith Kazlausky

Helen Kazlausky, 96, a fifty-five year resident of Alexandria, VA, previously of King George, VA, passed peacefully February 15, 2018 after a ten year struggle with dementia. She was born July 20, 1921 in Wilmerding, PA to Catherine Anne Freeman Smith and Joseph Frances Smith. On August 7, 1946 she married her high school sweetheart, Victor John Kazlausky who preceded her in death on May 10, 2009. Helen was the oldest of nine children. Brothers Joe Smith, Greg Smith, Scott Smith and sister Ella Mae Weightman preceded her in death.

The family was the center of Helen's life. Nothing warmed her heart more than spending time with her grandchildren. She frequently attended her grandchildren's music, dance and sporting events. Her welcoming home was filled with music, delicious home-cooked food and colorful gardens. Mrs. Kaz enjoyed visiting with Mount Vernon High School friends and supporting the school's activities. Fun-loving Helen was upbeat, never met a stranger and had smiles and joy to share with all. One would never find Helen without her signature clip-on earrings, matching necklace and bright lipstick. While living in Alexandria, she was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and Good Shepherd Catholic Church. She is survived by her children Patty Linkous (Stan) of Apex, NC, Vickie Barron (John) of Ashburn, VA and Jim Kazlausky (Marina) of Kahuku, HI; grandchildren Cathie Linkous, Mike Linkous, Missy Coulter (Jeff), Monica Esquivel (Kenny), Doug Barron, Alex Nagelvoort (Chris) and Neil Barron; great-grandsons Logan, Austin, and Paxton Coulter; siblings Dorothy Sylvester of Lantana, FL, Bill Smith of Buffalo, NY, Marlene Dawson (Roger) of Wirtz, VA and Tom Smith of McDonough, GA; special in-laws Mary, John (Jan), Adella, Bea (Dick) and Marcy and numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen's family deeply appreciates the staff at the Sunrise Senior Living of Leesburg for their compassionate care and attention where Helen resided for the last five years.
