Obituary

Helen Offield McLawhorn, age 98, died in Leesburg, VA on 1/28/2024 while in Hospice care. Helen was born on 7/22/1925 in Breckinridge Texas where she was raised along with her brothers Gene and Jake by the late Jesse James and Peggy Lou Offield. In July of 1945 Helen married the love of her life William E. (Mac) McLawhorn of Ayden, NC. In Dallas, Texas. Mac was a lieutenant in the US Army Air Corps-351st Bomber Group in World War ll after which he was an Eastern Airlines pilot for 37 years. Helen and Mac were married 68 years and had three children: Linda Rae Pardo of Potomac Falls,Va- Ronald Gene McLawhorn (deceased) formerly of Grand Prarie, TX and Vikki Lynn McLawhorn of Alexandria,VA. Helen and Mac's first home was in Mineola, NY. They lived in Warren Township, NJ for 42 years and then moved to Ashburn,VA to be near their daughters. Mac passed away in 2013. Helen had six Granddaughters: Vikki's daughter Jessica Hunt ; Ronnie's daughters Vikki Denise Fox, Sheila Reagan Anderson and Sarah Alecia Argo and Linda's daughters; Jennifer Lynn Pardo and Wendy Rae Pardo.

Helen was an avid Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees fan. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge and dominoes where she usually won, feeding and watching the wild birds and wildlife, stamp collecting, and collecting Hallmark sports figures and Frosty Friends Ornaments. Helen was the recipient of awards for her more than 37 years of volunteer work at the Warren Township Public Library. She also volunteered at the Woodland Elementary School Library. She was a past president of the P.T.A, a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, a past president of the Lions Club Auxillary, and a member of the Warren Township Women's Club. She was an active member of the Union Village Methodist Church in NJ and attended Galilee United Methodist Church in VA. Inurnment will be later this fall at the Garden of Folded Wings, a columbarium honoring the 8th Air Force in Pooler, GA followed by a small family service in the chapel there.
