Thomas Francis Howder, Sr., age 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Lucketts, VA on Monday, June 10, 2019. He is survived by his wife Patricia Howder; his daughter Susan Niemann-Hightower of Diamondhead, MS; his son Thomas Howder, Jr. of Arlington, VA; his daughters Amy Pfeiffer of Gulfport, MS; and Jennifer Lopez of Bay St. Louis, MS; and his son Connor Howder of Summerville, SC. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his parents Louis Hayes Howder and Camille Mary (O'Connor) Howder, and his sisters Dolores Camille Hazard and Carolyn Lucille Arillo.
Tom was born in Washington, DC on December 2, 1930. He received his undergraduate degree from the Catholic University of America and served in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant. He then earned his Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University Law Center. Tom spent most of his career with the Federal government, primarily with the Federal Trade Commission, as a litigation attorney and later as an Administrative Law Judge. He lived in the Lucketts area for more than forty years and belonged to several civic organizations including the Lucketts Ruritan.
A Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 18 at Saint John the Apostle Roman Catholic Church 101 Oakcrest Manor Dr NE in Leesburg. Interment will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Loudoun Interfaith Relief and Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter.
