IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Horace Lee
Loftis
May 14, 1945 – August 26, 2025
Horace "Lee" Loftis, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and brother, passed away on August 26, 2025, at the age of 80.
Born on May 14, 1945, in Gainesboro, Tennessee, Lee was the son of the late Morgan Laborn Loftis and Anna Jewell Loftis. He grew up in Tennessee before moving due to life and career opportunities, which took him to New Jersey, St. Louis, and Chicago. He eventually settled in Fairfax, Virginia, and has lived in Loudoun County for the past 43 years.
Lee attended Austin Peay University, where he proudly played football. He began his professional journey with Western Union, where he dedicated over 32 years of service and ultimately led the Accounts Receivable department for the East Coast. He played a key role in developing innovations such as MoneyGrams and wire transfers, which have significantly shaped the modern systems of global money transfer used today.
Generous with his time and talents, Lee was actively involved in his community. He served as a member of the Dulles Area Association of Realtors. He was a dedicated volunteer coordinator with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), where he contributed to fundraising and advocacy efforts in the pursuit of a cure for Type 1 diabetes.
Lee will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and ability to make everyone feel welcome. An outdoor enthusiast, he spent countless days camping, hunting, and fishing. He was also a lifelong fan of the Tennessee Volunteers, faithfully cheering on the Big Orange every Saturday in the fall.
Above all, Lee's greatest joy was his family. He never missed an opportunity to support his children and grandchildren, taking particular pride in cheering for his grandsons, Chase and Blake, at their many sporting events.
Lee is survived by his sons Christopher (Johnna) Loftis, Nick Loftis, and Scott (Jessica) Loftis; his grandchildren Chase, Blake, Miller, and Violet; his brothers Lloyd (Sue) Loftis of Cookeville, TN, Ray (Paulette) Loftis of Livonia, MI, and Ronnie (Kay) Loftis of Bloomington Springs, TN; his sisters Ina Jean Stockton of Clinton Township, MI, and Myra Cook of Sterling Heights, MI; his sister-in-law Patricia (Les) Krupp; his brother in law Kenneth Conner of Gainesboro, TN; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Loftis; his father, Morgan Loftis; his mother, Anna "Jewell" Loftis; his brother, Lewis Loftis; his sister, Jeanette "Penny" Connor; and his brothers-in-law, Tom Stockton and Carlos Cook.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, Virginia, followed by a celebration of life at Leesburg Station 1 Firehall, located at 215 Loudoun St SW, Leesburg, VA.
