Hubert Perry LaConia, a resident of Sterling, VA, passed away at the age of 93 on August 18, 2026, while under hospice care in Winchester, VA. Born in 1932 in Shenandoah, Virginia, he was the son of the late James M. and Ruth Ann LaConia.
He attended Shenandoah High School, after which he entered the U.S. Army in 1948 at the age of 16. His military career continued in the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a tailgunner on B-29 bombers and specialized in weaponry, armor, and the disposal of ordnance. Throughout his service, he completed one tour of duty in Germany and two tours in Korea.
After his military service, he worked as a photographer for Page Co. News and did portraits. In 1962, he was employed as a government security officer in Indian Head, Maryland. In 1964 he joined the Federal Aviation Administration police at Dulles International Airport and retired in 198 as a detective.
He married Liselotte Höesch of Oberschleißheim, Germany in 1957. Liselotte LaConia predeceased him in 1998.
Mr. LaConia maintained a deep appreciation for German culture and pursued a wide array of interests, including hunting, fishing, and camping. An adventurous individual, he completed 131 skydiving jumps and explored hobbies such as taxidermy, photography, scuba diving, gardening, and oil painting. Above all, he cherished his family and the time shared during their frequent gatherings.
Mr. LaConia is survived by his children: daughter Angela LeCrone and her husband Bruce; daughter Rhonda and her husband Mark Miskiel; son Clark (Pedro) and his wife Gail; and son Edward LaConia. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Maria and her husband David Price, who are anticipating the birth of a son in January; Alex and his wife Barbara LeCrone; Michael LaConia; and Leah and her husband Jacob Beach, who are expecting a daughter in March. He is also survived by three step-granddaughters, Jessica, Jarmind, and Anya, as well as his brother, James Wade LaConia (born 1941).
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Leonard LaConia (1930–2023), Donald LaConia (1934–2024), Lela Gregor (1943–2009), and John Calvin LaConia (1947–2023).
