Inez Elizabeth Peebles
November 1, 1930 – July 2, 2023
It is with the greatest sadness that the family of Inez Elizabeth (Ankers) Peebles announces her passing on Sunday, July 2, 2023. Inez was a mom, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and great aunt. She was a strong and selfless woman.
Born Inez Ankers in Fairfax County, Virginia on November 1, 1930, she was raised in Sunset Hills just outside Herndon, Virginia. She was the youngest of a large and loving family that included seven brothers and sisters. She graduated from Herndon High School and pursued a career as an Administrative Assistant at the Pentagon. In 1949, she was crowned Miss Leesburg and it was at this event that her future husband saw her for the first time. Inez married James (Jimmy) Peebles in 1952. They settled in Leesburg and raised a family with three children. Jan, Kenny, and Carol married and remained in Leesburg, never moving more than a few miles away, and raised their children.
Inez continued her career eventually working for Fairfax, Montgomery, and Loudoun County Public Schools. She finished her career as the Assistant to the Deputy Superintendent of Loudoun County Public Schools. In retirement, Inez and Jimmy pursued their long-time dream of traveling the country in their RV. They were fortunate to share nearly 20 years of adventures together. Inez also enjoyed decades of every Friday night with a group of her closest friends.
Inez was always happiest when surrounded by her family. Fondly named Mamaw by her grandchildren, she hosted family dinners, holidays, and birthdays. She was a loving mother and grandmother but also a friend to all her family. Her home and her heart were always open.
Inez was predeceased by her adoring husband, James Peebles. Left to remember her lovingly are her three children and their spouses: Janice Peebles Knight (Ric), Kenneth Peebles (Jody), and Carol Peebles Cunningham. She will be missed immeasurably by her seven grandchildren and their spouses: Jessica Sevila (Chip), Darren Cunningham (Tiffany), Dana LaRose (Justin), Kevin Knight, Alex Cunningham (Melissa), Hannah Noone (Shiloh), and Sean Cunningham (Jesse). Her legacy will live on in her seven great grandchildren: Austin, Ella, Dylan, Camden, Ari, Julian, and Connor. She will also be remembered by a host of great nieces and great nephews who loved her dearly.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, July 10, 2023, at 10:00 am at St. James Episcopal Church in Leesburg, Virginia.
