Ira Maynard Simpson, 83, of Edinburg, Virginia passed away on August 22, 2008.
Mr. Simpson was born on November 21, 1924 in Pounding Mill, Virginia to the late Adam L. and Louise (Cruey) Simpson.
He served in the United States Navy during WWII as a Electrician's Mate Third Class. While serving, Mr. Simpson earned the American, Asiatic Pacific and Victory World War II Medals. Mr. Simpson later worked as a farmer. After farming, he worked in the construction industry.
Left behind to lovingly pass down the memories are his wife, Mary, and children: Carol S. Griffith of Winchester, VA; Terry M. Simpson of Martinsburg, WV; Eric H. Simpson of Warrenton, VA; and step children: Lydia C. Leonard of Strasburg, VA; Shirley A. Reynolds of Fitzgerald, GA; Florence E. Mitchell of Arrington, VA; Charles F. Vann, Jr. of Strasburg, VA; Nancy E. Hutcheson of Edinburg, VA and Patricia I. Whitted of Woodstock, VA; along with five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Clyde R. Simpson and Roger Simpson of Marshall, VA and four sisters: Helen Sudduth of Amissville, VA; Daisy Kirk of Marshall, VA; Joyce Deal of Middleburg, VA; and Hazel Todin of Bryce, VA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Simpson was predeceased by his first wife of 44 years, Golena M. Simpson who passed away in 1987, three sisters; Dainese Crawford, Dorothey Belchor and Betty Bennett, four brothers; Sherman Simpson, Ted Simpson, Arthur Simpson and Verner Simpson and his stepson Charles F. Vann.
Family and friends may visit the funeral home on Thursday morning, August 28, 2008 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. A service will begin at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Leesburg, VA.
