Irving Berkley Frye
1921-2008
Irving Berkley Frye was born in Lucketts, Virginia on March 27, 1921. He was one of 18 children born to Ode and Virgie Frye. He married Bernadine Howard on October 6, 1942. They were married for 55 years and raised three children, Berkley, Connie, and Mary Kay. Irving and Bernadine made their home together in Lucketts for over 40 years. Irving was a painter by trade. His passion was baseball and especially managing the Lucketts baseball team in the 1960's. The team went on to win the 1964 Heart of Maryland League championship. He loved playing cards, having yard sales, cooking, spending time with family, and was always ready to go anywhere.
Irving passed away at Heritage Hall Nursing Home on July 5, 2008 at the age of 87. He is predeceased by his wife Bernadine Frye and a son Berkley Frye. He is survived by 2 daughters and 2 son-in-laws, Connie McDonald, and her husband Leonard McDonald, Jr. of Leesburg and Mary Kay Graham and her husband Peter Graham of Purcellville. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Suzanne Brown, Michael Frye, Lenny McDonald, Shannon Graham, Ashley Ridgeway, and Brittany McDonald; and 5 great-grandchildren, Carter Brown, Meghan Frye, Olivia Brown, Abby McDonald, and William Frye. He is survived by 2 brothers and 6 sisters: Jimmy Frye, Kenny Frye, Marie Lawson, Goldie Bates, Arbutus Frye, Violet Frye, Francis Austin and Helen Frye, In addition, he is survived by a very special friend, Mary Hearn.
Family and friends may visit the funeral home on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A service will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 11:00 am with burial following at Union Cemetery.
