Obituary

Jack was born at home in North Bergen, NJ where he went to high school, raised a bit of a ruckus, secretly owned a couple of big motor cycles and met his ever beloved Eva, his wife of 56 years. He was raised in a mostly Italian neighborhood and was the first person in his home town to be drafted in 1942 which he fondly called "the only lottery he ever won". He spent 4 years in the US Army mainly in the Philippine Islands as a Staff Sergeant in an aircraft gunnery unit. After the war Jack worked for the Celotex Corporation and Stevens Institute of Technology as a Millwright, Machinist and Instructor until the age of 73. He enjoyed solving problems, construction projects large and small, the mountains of Huguenot , NY and the Pocono's, photography, music, fishing, playing the lottery, tools, archery and guns, coin collecting, watching football and westerns and especially watching live women's rugby. Following Eva's passing in 2000, Jack moved to Virginia to live with his son Roger and wife Connie in Leesburg. He was especially fond of his new friends and neighbors in Virginia and called them the most caring and friendliest people he had ever met. Uncle Jack as he was known by his many nieces and nephews, Grandpa as he was known by his grand children David, Craig, Stacy and Laura, Great Grandpa as he was known by his great grand children Jack, Nicholas and Lila, G-Pa or "the G" as he was known by the Doylestown Women's Rugby team, Jack as he was known by his many friends and neighbors, Mr. Jack as he was known by his college students or just dad, he could always be counted on for a helping hand, a great story or sage advice. An opinion was never very far away and a good debate was always welcome. He loved helping and interacting with "young people" and he truly loved his family and friends and their pets. He was proud to have helped so many students achieve their goals and to provide life guiding advice to anyone who asked and even to some who didn't ask. It is certain that he had a meaningful impact on every person who grew to know him. He was a great man that will be missed and dearly remembered by all. Family and friends are invited for a time of visitation to share their memories at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd, NE, Leesburg, VA 20176 on Sunday, January 2, 2011 between the hours of 6:00 and 7:30 p.m. A Graveside service will be held on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Shenandoah Memorial Park Cemetery, 1270 Front Royal Pike, Winchester, VA 22602.
