Obituary

Jacqueline Marie (Jackie) Sims, 49, departed this life Sunday, December 20, 2009 at her residence in Randallstown, MD. Born October 15, 1960, Jackie was the daughter of the late James A. Sims and Ruth M. (Simms) Sims. A brother Paul Sims preceded her in death.

Jackie was a graduate of Leesburg High School, Leesburg Virginia where she excelled in athletics and academics. She also attended and graduated from Howard University where she earned a B.S. degree in political science. She advanced her degree at Howard University School of Law.

She was currently employed by the United States Government Printing Office as the attorney advisor for labor relations. She was previously employed by the American Federation of Government Employees-National Veteran's Affairs Council as assistant general counsel.

She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, a mentor for high school students at Eastern High School, Washington, DC, volunteered with the Legal Aid Society and did mediation for landlord tenant relations.

She was an artist and especially enjoyed watching Law and Order on television.

Surviving in addition to her mother, are sisters Stephanie Cue, Beverly Scott, Janet Sims and Kristen Sims, and life partner Tokyo Direkston.

A time for family and friends to gather and share the memories has been set for Saturday, December 26, 2009 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd. NE, Leesburg, VA 20176. A service will be held following the viewing/visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Leesburg, VA.
