Obituary

James Adam Giebel, 94, died Saturday, Oct 19, 2013, at Heritage Hall in Leesburg, Va. He was born December 17, 1918, to Adam and Lillian MacDonald Giebel in Washington, D.C.

He attended Georgetown University and was a member of the Hoya basketball team 1939-1941. When the US entered WWII, Jim left Georgetown to enlist in the military, eventually serving as a US Army captain in India. Jim had a long career in auto sales in Washington DC at McKee Pontiac and Blank Pontiac. He also worked at the CIA in Langley, Va.

Jim married Kathryn McKee on December 10, 1941. They lived in Bethesda, MD, and then in McLean, VA. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary before Kay's death in August 2011. Their 65th wedding anniversary celebration was featured in the Washington Post.

Jim attended Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Sterling, Va, where Father Patrick was Jim's spiritual advisor. Jim appreciated and enjoyed Meals on Wheels.

Jim is survived by his five children: Georgeanna Matson, Jim (and Sharon) Giebel, Kathy (and Tim) Corbett, Ken Giebel, and Mary (and Joe) Keimig, 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; his sister Mary Cahill, and his brother-in-law John Campbell.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Kathryn, brother Clem and sister-in-law Gertie Giebel, sisters Theresa Pease and Betty Campbell, brothers-in-law Don Pease and Don Cahill, son-in-law Dave Matson, and grandson JJ Giebel.
