James Carl Gier, 61, of Harpers Ferry, WV passed away at Inova Fairfax Hospital on Feb 21, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Connie Connor Gier of Harpers Ferry WV, his son Edward James Gier of Sterling, VA., daughter Kathleen Tiaga of Hamilton, VA, daughter Amy Lloyd of Martinsburg WV, son Gregory George of Martinsburg WV, 5 grandchildren and a grandchild preceding him.

Born in Lackawanna, NY, he was the son of Edward James Gier and Shirley Louise Sauberan. He is survived by his sister Wendy Boncore of Hamburg, NY, brother Donald Gier Sr. of Eden, NY, sister Missy Hounschell of Iverness FL, and sister Dee Pitillo of Eden NY, and several nieces and nephews.

He was an Air Force Vietnam War Veteran, a member of the Loudoun County Sterling Volunteer Fire and Rescue, and employed by Potomac Corporation of Ashburn as a mechanic for many years. He was a member of the American Legion and the National Rifle Association . A hobbyist of many interests including woodworking, gunsmithing, oil painting and fishing.

Family and friends are invited to share the memories between 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road NE, Leesburg, Virginia 20176 where services will immediately follow starting at 2:00 pm.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 20, 2016 in Union Cemetery, Leesburg, Virginia.
