James Weeden Hernly, 65, of Alexandria, Virginia passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2008 after a struggle with cancer.
Mr. Hernly was born in Alexandria on July 21, 1943 to the late Harriet (Weeden) and Harold Hernly, Sr. He was a loving father and grandfather of two daughters: Sara Cox and Lara Nesbit and four grandchildren: Ethan, Mia, Sabrina, and Erin.
He was a true nautical lover. Mr. Hernly loved being around the water and found much pleasure when sailing.
Being a native Virginian, he found the state quite interesting and was fond of touring locally. He often collected things during his travels.
Mr. Hernly was a member and frequent visitor of Oatlands Plantations. He found enjoyment in watching the horses racing across the grounds.
Mr. Hernly was known as a happy person with a positive attitude. He will be missed by the many who loved him.
His family and friends are invited to the Immanuel Church on the Hill, 3606 Seminary Road, Alexandria,VA, 22304 where a memorial service will be held in his honor starting at 11:00 am on Friday, October 31, 2008.
