He was born in Camden, NJ to Howard T. and Ellen C. McCaffrey in May 1947. He proudly served with the U.S. Marine Corps including two tours in Vietnam. After serving in the Marine Corps he spent his career in federal service, retiring from his position with the federal government in 2011 after 32 years.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary-Lou K. (Whitfield) McCaffrey, two children, Erin K. McCaffrey (and husband, Jim) of Stone Ridge, VA and Ryan P. McCaffrey (and wife, Melissa) of South Riding, VA. He was Granddad to five grandchildren: Maiya, Addison, Avery, Leah, and Regan. Jim is also survived by his brothers, H. Thomas McCaffrey (and wife, Patty) of Chantilly, VA and Michael L. McCaffrey of Casselberry, FL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Patrick J. McCaffrey. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, dear friends and neighbors.
He was a loving, caring husband, father, and grandfather. He was happiest when spending time with his family, riding his Harley, watching a Key West sunset, or sitting on the patio with Mary-Lou enjoying a glass of wine. His presence here on earth will be greatly missed but his legacy continues through his children and grandchildren who loved him deeply.
