James W. Robinson, MD, of Leisure World VA and formerly of Summit, NJ died on February 25th at Loudoun Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, at the age of 90.
Dr. Robinson was a retired physician who practiced Internal Medicine at the Summit Medical Group and was an attending physician at Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ for 38 years. He was born in 1920 in Paotingfu, China, one of three children of Harold and Mary Robinson, missionaries with the North China Congregational Church. Dr. Robinson graduated from the North China American School, Dartmouth College, and Harvard Medical School with honors in 1944. He served in the US Navy as a medical officer in WWII and Korean War. He married Hope Buist in 1946 with whom he had three daughters.
Dr. Robinson enjoyed music, tennis, sailing, art, theater, writing, summers at the ocean and world travel. He was known for his love of family, wit, wisdom, integrity and love of bow ties. After retirement, he volunteered with the New Jersey Mental Health Players, participated in the Adult Literacy Program at the Somerset County (NJ) Jail, the New Jersey Choral Arts Society, Little Theatre of Leisure World of Virginia and the Blue Ridge Writers Club.
In addition to his second wife Rose-Joan Barron he is survived by his sister Elizabeth R. Ratcliffe, daughters Carol R. King, Lynn R. Walsh (Thomas), Jan R. Hartt (David), six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, Step children Alice and Bruce Barron. Memorial service will be held at a later date.
