Obituary

James Martin Rose, 80, a resident of Ashburn, VA, passed to his heavenly home on September 28, 2023 after a long illness.  He was surrounded by his loving family.

James was predeceased by his mother, Edith, father, John, and his stepfather Charles. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 56 years, Diane B. Rasmusson and his sons Todd and wife Michelle, Christopher and his wife Katherine; his grandchildren Noah, Brooklynn, Gunnar and Brody; and his brother John along with several nieces and nephews.

James was born on October 2nd, 1942 in Yonkers, NY and was raised in Peekskill, NY. He graduated from Peekskill High School in 1961 and attended RCA Institutes and The New York Institute of Technology.  Music was his first love, and he worked part-time as a professional drummer/percussionist by playing club dates and events.  He would continue to play regularly thru the early 1980's.

In 1966 he enlisted into the United States Army and graduated both Combat Engineering and Officer Candidate School. From 1968 to 1969 he served in Vietnam as a 1st Lieutenant and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in a combat zone.

In 1970 James began his career as an Audio Engineer with CBS Television, a career that would span 35 years. During this time he worked on a variety of well-known programs and sporting events including: "The Ed Sullivan Show", Morning and Evening News, Elections, Soap Operas, "60 Minutes", and 3 Olympics for which he received several industry awards and 2 Emmys. He retired in 2005 after working on "The Late Show with David Letterman" ironically, in the same "Ed Sullivan Studio" where his career began.

Upon retirement, he moved to Camden, Maine where he was able to pursue many of his other hobbies and passions including Black and White art photography, sailing, kayaking and playing piano. He recently moved to Virginia to be near his grandchildren.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
